The parts go into rotating equipment or pressurised plant, where a failure does not stay local and is not cheap to remedy. The requirements are therefore fixed before the drawing: material certificate, batch traceability, controlled sealing faces.
Parts typical of this sector
Flanges, housings, shafts and sealing components for rotating equipment and pressurised plant. They bring the material certificate and batch traceability with them, and sealing faces call for a controlled surface finish, not merely a dimension.
Criteria that govern the quotation
The sealing face governs, not the diameter. A correct dimension on too rough a surface loses the seal as surely as a wrong dimension does, and surface finish cannot be recovered at assembly. The faces that seal and the Ra class required for them are marked on the drawing; the rest is machined to the general class. The second criterion is traceability: where the lot has to be traced back to the heat number, the requirement is stated at quotation, not at delivery - the record begins at sawing, in the first operation.
Usual materials
The material groups most frequently found in this sector’s parts. What governs remains the requirement on the drawing, not the sector classification.
Usual processes
The processes this sector’s parts usually pass through.
Documentation usually required
Usual: 3.1 or 3.2 material certificate to EN 10204, a dimensional report on the sealing dimensions and a first-article report. The exact requirements are confirmed at quotation.
