Hydraulics and pneumatics
Here a few tenths of a micron decide whether the assembly holds or leaks. The parts are valve bodies, pistons, rods and fittings, and the dimensions that matter are almost always the sealing ones.
Parts typical of this sector
Valve bodies, pistons, rods, fittings. The sealing dimensions decide: close tolerances on diameters and a fine finish exactly where the seal runs - the rest of the surface may stay rougher without doing any harm.
Criteria that govern the quotation
The diameter alone is not sufficient. A bore correct in diameter but out of round or tapered loses the seal just as one machined wrong does; sealing dimensions therefore carry form requirements as well - roundness, cylindricity and, where the function calls for it, run-out to a datum axis. These are marked explicitly on the drawing; without them the general class applies, which for a seal is not enough. The second criterion is the finish of the surface the seal runs on: too rough cuts the seal, too polished does not hold the oil film.
Usual materials
The material groups most frequently found in this sector’s parts. What governs remains the requirement on the drawing, not the sector classification.
Usual processes
The processes this sector’s parts usually pass through.
Documentation usually required
Usual: a dimensional report on the sealing dimensions, with form deviations measured on the coordinate measuring machine, and a material certificate.
